Questions

What families ask before they enroll

Who is Flax for, and what are the hours?

Flax is for children ages 2 to 5, in three rooms. Mornings run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., three or five days a week, and the school day runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

How does a tour work?

A tour takes about an hour on a weekday morning, while the rooms and the garden are at work. You see each room, meet the guides and have time for questions. Children are welcome to come along.

What sets tuition?

Your child's room, the schedule you choose and the days a week. We share our figures on the enrollment page and go through them with you on a tour.

How is a place held, and how does the waitlist work?

A place is held once we have your enrollment form and a deposit, and the deposit goes toward the first month's tuition. When a room is full, families join a waitlist by room and schedule, and offers go out in the order families joined.

Is Flax licensed, and what are the ratios?

Flax is licensed as a child care center by Colorado CDEC. The ratio for each age and the size of each room are on the safety and license page.

What happens when my child is ill?

A child with a fever or a contagious illness stays home. If a child becomes ill at school, we call you right away, and a guide stays with the child until you arrive.

What about photos?

We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo.

What should my child bring and wear?

Clothes your child can manage alone and that can get muddy, rain boots that stay on, a sun hat in summer and a spare set of clothes in a labeled bag. Indoor shoes stay at school.

Does my child need to be toilet trained?

Children in the Seed room are still learning, and a guide helps calmly and without fuss. The Sprout and Bloom rooms go more smoothly when a child can use the toilet on their own, so we talk through timing with each family at the tour.

What do you do on a hard day?

Every child has hard days. A guide stays close, puts what is happening into a few quiet words and helps the child find a way back to their work. We tell families what we saw at pickup.
